Our Story

“Why are we chasing trends from everywhere else when we have such richness right here?”
— Maira, Founder
Aaraish by Maira began with a simple observation and a deep love for home.
I'm Maira, and I grew up in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, surrounded by some of the most talented embroiderers in Pakistan. I watched my aunts, neighbors, and local artisans create intricate patterns that seemed to hold entire stories in their stitches. The precision, the patience, the artistry — it was extraordinary. Yet these skills were slowly fading, and the younger generation, including myself for a while, was looking elsewhere for inspiration.
After studying design and exploring what fashion could be, I kept coming back to one question: Why are we chasing trends from everywhere else when we have such richness right here?
Aaraish — meaning “embellishment” in Urdu — is my answer to that question. It's a celebration of where I'm from and what our artisans can do. This brand is my attempt to create clothing that I myself want to wear: rooted in our heritage but designed for real life, honoring traditional craftsmanship but not trapped in the past.
I'm starting small, working directly with embroiderers from my community, learning as I go, and designing pieces that feel both meaningful and wearable. Each collection is carefully considered — I'm not interested in mass production or fleeting trends. I want to create clothing that carries value: in its making, in its wearing, and in the stories it tells.
This is just the beginning of Aaraish by Maira, but it's built on something timeless — the belief that our heritage deserves to be worn, celebrated, and carried forward into the future.
